Substance Use Disorder and Recovery in Mokena

A person walking through a sunlit field of wildflowers in the late afternoon.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) occurs when the repeated use of alcohol, opioids, tobacco, or other substances causes significant problems in daily life, health, and relationships. At Mind and Body Wellness, we understand that addiction is a complex brain disorder, not a moral failing. Our Tinley Park clinicians provide a judgment-free environment to help you or your loved one regain control and begin the journey toward recovery.

Recognizing the Signs of Substance Use Disorder

SUD can vary in severity from mild to chronic. Common symptoms that indicate it may be time to seek professional substance use treatment  include:

  • Cravings and Loss of Control: An intense urge to use the substance and an inability to stop, even when you want to.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Feeling physically or mentally ill when you stop using the substance.
  • Neglecting Responsibilities: Failing to meet obligations at work, school, or home due to substance use.
  • Risk-Taking and Health Issues: Continuing to use despite negative consequences to your health, legal status, or safety.

Dual Diagnosis: Addressing Addiction and Mental Health

It is very common for substance use disorder to occur alongside other conditions such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD. This is known as Dual Diagnosis.

Our approach to SUD treatment focuses on treating the whole person. We utilize a combination of medication management to stabilize symptoms and psychotherapy to build the coping skills necessary for long-term sobriety.
